What to Bring

To ensure a comfortable and productive course at the centre for yourself and your fellow students, please see the items listed below. This is a general list, items to bring or not to bring can vary across different course locations. Upon acceptance to a 10-day course you will receive an email with more specific instructions. 

Bedding and towels

On the courses in Austria, bed linen and towels are provided by the management in some houses and not in others. Before the start of the course you will receive an email with information about this.

For meditation

If possible, please bring your own cushions and blankets for meditation. If you do not have any such items, these will be provided for you. Please note that meditation cushions and blankets should be used exclusively for meditation.

Clothing

Please bring enough warm and comfortable clothing for the duration of your stay since only minimal hand washing facilities are available. You may also need rain clothes, outdoor shoes and slippers for inside. You should dress modestly, no tight or revealing clothing. Your shoulders and knees should be covered. See the section headed Clothing in the Code of Discipline.

Toiletries

Please bring soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, body lotion, deodorant without perfume, toiletries, etc. for the duration of your stay.

Other items

Please bring a torch, an alarm clock, and a drinking bottle.

What not to bring

Please do not bring any books, religious objects, writing materials, MP3 players and other electronic devices to the course. Please do not bring your own food.

All personal belongings are kept at the course site at your own risk. The Vipassana Trust is not liable for any loss or damage to property, however caused. The required items that have been listed cover all seasons. Please bring items appropriate for the season. Rain gear is always advisable.
